Overview
General Skilled Migration (GSM) is a program designed for skilled workers who want to live in Australia permanently. These visas are points-based and require you to have skills and qualifications that Australia needs.
Visa Subclasses
Subclass 189 - Skilled Independent Visa
For skilled workers who are not sponsored by an employer, family member, or state/territory government.
Subclass 190 - Skilled Nominated Visa
For skilled workers who are nominated by a state or territory government.
Subclass 491 - Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) Visa
For skilled workers who want to live and work in regional Australia.
Eligibility Requirements
- Be under 45 years of age
- Have a suitable skills assessment for your nominated occupation
- Have competent English language proficiency
- Score at least 65 points on the points test
- Have an occupation on the relevant skilled occupation list
- Meet health and character requirements

What happens if my occupation is removed from the skilled occupation list after I submit my EOI?
If your occupation is removed from the skilled occupation list after you've submitted your EOI but before you receive an invitation, you won't be invited to apply for the visa.
